Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Pet Check-In: Step-by-Step Guide

What actually happens at the Folkestone and Calais pet receptions - scans, documents, queues and how long it all takes.

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Pet Check-In: Step-by-Step Guide

Arriving at the terminal

Follow the paw-print signs at either terminal. At Calais the pet reception is a dedicated building before passport control; at Folkestone the check happens at the Pet Reception beside the main check-in lanes. Arrive at least 60-90 minutes before your booked shuttle with a pet.

The five-minute check

Staff scan your pet's microchip, compare it against the AHC or EU passport, verify the rabies dates and - for UK-bound dogs - the tapeworm record. Your pet stays in the car or carrier for the whole check. Once cleared, you receive a mirror hanger and join the boarding lanes.

On board with your pet

You stay in your vehicle with your pet for the 35-minute crossing. Windows can stay cracked open, the carriage is ventilated, and most animals simply sleep. It is widely considered the least stressful way to cross the Channel with an animal.

The Folkestone side, step by step

Heading to France, the pet reception is a separate building just before the check-in booths - follow the paw-print signs. Inside, staff scan the microchip first, then check the rabies entry and the AHC or passport. Fifteen minutes on a normal day, thirty in the summer holidays. Our tip: use the exercise area behind the building before you go in; a dog that has just toileted is a dog that queues politely.

If a document fails at check-in

It happens: a stamp in the wrong box, a tapeworm treatment 10 minutes too early. If anything is flagged, the staff explain exactly what is missing and there are vets near both terminals who can often fix it the same day. This is why we build margin into every booking and why we check your documents with you the day before travel - in hundreds of crossings, our clients have never missed a shuttle over paperwork, and we intend to keep it that way.
